Let's talk about Better Gardens: From research to practice

Having researched about the effects of gardening management methods on biodiversity, soil quality and quality of life of urban gardeners, now is the time to set our findings to practice. From 2015 to 2017, researchers at the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow and Landscape Research WSL and the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture FiBL analyzed soil samples, species diversity and gardeners behaviour in Zurich, Bern and Lausanne. The analysis shows that private gardens offer a unique habitat for many species in the city. Furthermore, the results give valuable information for best practice strategies to support city biodiversity and soil quality. Now we want to spread the word and share our findings with urban gardeners, city representatives and real estate owners. More biodiversity in the neighbourhood is possible with simple means. Everyone can make a contribution!

If you want to find out more about the research conducted and our results. Go to our research page.

Soon we will publish more information about best gardening management practices and instructions. Also we are planning workshops and gardening tours in Swiss cities, where private gardeners, semi-public land owners and city representatives can learn about our research findings. The events will take place in 2021. Concrete dates will be published here.
